SFTP is busy working all the time. Events mostly take place during
the school year but during the summer we still socialize and plan
in small ad hoc groups. To be quite open about this News page, the
webmaster isn't involved in SFTP on a regular basis so some of the
things we might consider news don't get posted here. For any questions
at all just contact Sarah or Kelly.
The fourth HRM Day of Peace
will be taking place on Wednesday, August 6th, 2008. The festivities are set to begin around 3:00 pm.
Students for Teaching Peace will be presenting around--or just after--4:00 pm at the Peace Pavilion.
At 5:00 pm, Hope for the Future will be screened in the Helen Creighton Room inside the Alderney Public Library.
February 9, 2007
Hope For The Future selected as one of final four youth programs
for the 2007 Shaw Rocket Prize
See the the video page
for details of this exciting accomplishment!
September 9, 2006
Students for Teaching Peace and Sea to Sea Productions are
happy to present their first documentary film, Hope for The Future,
on Atlantic Television.
If you tune in to ASN (channel 7 for all those with cable,
within the HRM) at 7 pm, you will be fortunate enough to see the
second version of Hope for The Future - something SFTP hasn't even
seen yet! If you have any questions, comments, or anything else,
please contact me at kelly@sftp.ca, or check out our website at
www.sftp.ca.

After a field trip to see Teaching Peace in a Time of War,
a documentary about Hetty van Gurp's work on behalf of Peaceful
Schools International in Serbia, Sarah Dubé became motivated
to form a group called Students for Teaching Peace which
is committed to promoting the understanding and respect of all beliefs
and cultures, through advocacy, non-violent conflict resolution
and education.
Through Students for Teaching Peace they were able to raise enough
funds to send 32 youth from across Canada to Serbia to attend a
?Youth 2 Youth? Peace Conference.
Upon their return, they hosted a summer camp for 13 Serbian youth.
In 2005 she was recognized with the Lieutenant Governor's Award.
