- Students For Teaching Peace (SFTP) stands for promoting
peace and putting peace into the front of people's minds.
- SFTP also believes in introducing or reintroducing peace
education into schools and communities.
- SFTP started out small and has become something much
larger than originally thought. Our determination and dedication
has proven that anyone can make a difference no matter how big
or small.
Here are some ideas for things you can do in your school
and community to promote peace and peace education:
- Educate yourself. If you notice an issue in the news look
into it more then what the news is telling you, so that you
can better educate those around you.
- Organize a Peace Idol. A peace themed talent show where students
can showcase their artwork, song and poems that speak out for
peace and against violence.
- Organize a Peace Dance where student dress up as their favorite
key player in the peace process (Martin Luther King Jr., Gaundi,
etc.)
- If you find an issue you are passionate about learn all you
can and organize a conference or symposium to educate you school
and community about that issue.
- Use media to your advantage. If you see an issue emerge around
your school and community (racial and discriminatory slurs being
made, a student being picked on about a certain feature) begin
an ad campaign in you school against that issue. Hand out flyers,
make posters, etc.
- Start a "pay
it forward"or "random
acts of kindness chain" campaign.
